Ornate vintage stockings and high heels were a vintage fashion trend proudly worn by celebrities like Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy, and Madonna. Everything that was fashionable and old-fashioned at that time is now returning. One thing we'd love to see is this unique look.

It's easy to see that classic white vintage socks and high heels were commonplace back then. Now socks come in all sorts of types and styles. Even compression socks have changed that. You can find all sorts of styles of compression socks for women that can be paired with any kind of heels.

But let's get back to where the trend of socks and heels was first introduced.

History of Style

Regarding the look of white gloves and socks with high heels, we can certainly point to the late 1960s. And of course, in the 1980s, fitness styles were locked in. So, let's go back to the 60s. If you really want to tie the trend back, you could say the originals were the Egyptians and the Greeks. Traditional heels in the 8th century weren't as popular, but sandals and socks were. In Persia, the heel appeared two centuries later.

However, in 1968, Natalie Wood debuted in high heels with white knee-high socks. After that, almost everyone did. Last year, after an internationally renowned designer, Miu Miu, debuted socks with high heels, 22 other appearances also appeared on the catwalk. Most importantly, „T-Strapped Heels“ with mini skirts dominate the scene. Think of „Gossip Girl.“.

Icons

Looking at the fashion icons who wore this trend provides inspiration for today's look. Undoubtedly, designers like Miu Miu drew inspiration from some of the vintage style greats.

Audrey Hepburn

Recreating everything Audrey Hepburn did is quite an achievement. She wasn't afraid to be an early adopter of the trend for socks and heels. Especially when it came to flats and shoes. Often, when wearing flats, she wore hosiery, but when the opportunity to wear socks became a trend, she adapted. This was often paired with her famous turtleneck and trousers. However, the trousers were cropped, revealing her ankles and socks.

TWIGGY

Twiggy, the renowned English model, is known for her fashion statements, and recently she's been celebrating her sixties like they're going out of style. Except we think they're here to stay. If one thing were to be looked at as the biggest fashion trend of the 60s, it would actually be the mini skirt. But everyone was obsessed with it, so how could you style it differently than everyone else? Of course, with heels and socks.

One stylish moment stood out when Twiggy paired a pink miniskirt with a crochet set. The crochet set included a crocheted white sweater, a matching hat, and coordinating knee-high socks. To complete the look, she wore knee-high socks with black flats. The look gave the miniskirt decade a preppy feel.

Madonna

Madonna She is known for many statements with her socks. In fact, it's kind of her thing now. Consider a time when she sprinted through JFK airport, wearing a stylish tracksuit with varying colors and different patterns. She paired this look with high-end Louis Vitton sandals, which featured the house brand monogram in gold. And, of course, she paired them with black ankle socks.

Or consider her tribute (Tupac) 2Pac. She appeared in a New York street style tribute video. She posed in front of some of New York's most iconic landmarks wearing high-heeled combat boots with a 2-Pac imprint on the soles. The look featured baggy cargo pants and a graphic tee. She finished the look with gold and silver jewelry. The „grunge” punk look still lives on today.

Today's outfit

In the 1960s, they looked like simple white or maybe black socks. Today, the white look remains, but the wilder the design or pattern, the more fun the girls have. Madonna might have been the start of it with her elaborate socks with wine glasses, Tupac, and others.

claim that this vintage look never goes out of fashion, would be a correct assumption. This is because it has become a look without rules. It is difficult to go wrong with this chic vintage style.
